Summer is Here!
We have come to the end of our time in Class 1 and what a fantastic half term to finish on. We’ve had so many enjoyable experiences this half term and our learning has been incredible!
We had a glorious trip to the beach, where the children played in the sand, creating brilliant memories that I hope last a lifetime. I know I certainly won’t forget the sound of their laughter as they ran towards the sea to paddle!
We have been learning all about the seaside and coastal towns in geography, with the children being able to identify the coast, identify features of a coastal town and even differentiate between human and physical features.
We had a wonderful time making fruit kebabs in DT, and an even more wonderful time eating them afterwards!
In science, we have been learning about plants. We planted our own broad beans and documented their growth. Some were more successful than others! We also learned about different trees and flowering plants; can you spot any when you are out and about this summer?
In literacy, we have been learning to use adjectives to describe nouns. We have focused our writing on dragons: creating our own dragons; drawing dragon eyes; using adjectives to describe dragons, and even writing a dragon character description. From this, we then wrote a story about a dragon who was afraid of mice! We used ‘George and the Dragon’ by Chris Wormell and ‘Tell Me a Dragon’ by Jackie Morris for inspiration.
In maths, we have learned so much, from fractions to telling the time! The children are so much more confident with being able to read the time on an analogue clock. They can find half and quarter of a shape and amount. We have also been learning to use money and add coins together to make an amount. It would be great if the children could keep practising using coins over the summer holidays!
Our reading progress has been fabulous and the children did themselves very proud in their phonics screening checks earlier this half term. It is lovely to see the children using their reading skills to read for pleasure, too.
Y1 Summer 2 24-25
It is so sad to say goodbye at the end of the year. Myself (Mrs Gallon) and Miss Nicol will miss the children enormously. I am delighted with the amazing ways in which the children have developed in year 1; they have shown what brilliant potential they all have. Keep up the excellent work in year 2, Class 1!
We hope you have a happy, safe and sunny summer.
