Veni Vidi Vici!

Super Powers

In literacy, this half term, the children have been busy writing their own sections of our class book, Super Powers by Alex Cliff. Using story maps and storyboards, they planned their ideas carefully before bringing their stories to life in writing. A key focus has been on using speech to help show how characters are feeling, encouraging the children to think more deeply about character development and expression. They’ve also been working hard to extend their sentences, adding extra detail to engage and inform the reader. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence as writers continue to grow!

Weight and capacity

In maths this half term, the children have been deepening their understanding of weight and capacity through a range of practical, hands-on activities. They particularly enjoyed using scales and measuring cylinders to read a variety of scales and measure different amounts accurately. Alongside this, the children have been applying their knowledge of the four operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—to solve real-life problems, choosing the most efficient strategies to find solutions.

Romans invading!

During our topic lessons, we have been learning about The Romans and their invasion of Britain. We have looked into why and how they invaded Britain and have also discovered what life was like as a soldier. The children had great fun visiting Vindolanda, where we saw real life artefacts and spoke to some archaeologists about how the romans changed Britain.

As the Romans say:

Veni Vidi Vici– I came , I saw, I conquered!

This half term, the children have shown great determination in tackling a variety of new challenges. One of the highlights was our sandwich-making activity, which required plenty of perseverance and practical skills. The children had the opportunity to choose from a wide selection of fillings and salad ingredients before getting hands-on with food preparation—grating, slicing, chopping, and spreading. It was wonderful to see their independence and creativity shine through as they built their own delicious sandwiches.

We had so much fun exploring the fascinating world of light and shadow in our science lessons too! The children enjoyed a range of hands-on investigations and are now confidently able to identify different sources of light. They also learned how shadows are formed and could explain this using scientific vocabulary. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they made discoveries through practical experiments.
