What a Fantastic First Term!
It has been such a pleasure welcoming the children into Year 5 this term. Having taught many of them when they were in Year 3, it has been lovely to work with them again and see how much they have grown in confidence, independence and maturity. They have settled into Year 5 brilliantly, and I am so proud of the fantastic start they have made!

In English, we have been developing our writing skills through our work on Odysseus. The children have been using ambitious vocabulary, expanded noun phrases and a range of sentence structures to bring their writing to life. We have also been working hard to develop our spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
In Maths, we have continued to build our understanding of number, place value and calculation. The children have been developing their confidence in tackling challenging problems, explaining their reasoning and choosing appropriate strategies to find solutions.
During our History lessons, we have been exploring Ancient Greece and discovering how the ancient Greeks have influenced the world we live in today. The children have enjoyed learning about Greek myths and legends, including the adventures of Odysseus, and finding out about the lasting impact of ancient Greek ideas and achievements.
In Science, we have been learning about life cycles and reproduction in animals and plants. The children have explored how animals grow and develop, compared gestation periods and investigated the different stages of plant life cycles.
It has been wonderful to see the children embracing the challenges of Year 5, supporting one another and approaching their learning with such enthusiasm. Seeing familiar faces again and having the opportunity to teach them at this stage of their school journey has made this term particularly special.
I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved so far and look forward to seeing them continue to grow, learn and flourish throughout the year. Well done, Year 5, for such a fantastic first term! I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved half-term break.
